That was one of the last word my daddy made up. Pronounced (SWA-VAY!) It had a different meaning each time he used it! He would say, “MAN! I LOOK Sauvé-AY TODAY!” Then he taught us that the new etiquette way to greet someone was by saying, “Sauvé-ay, nice to meet you!” along with a little hand motion you had to do at the time of saying it! Lol.
It’s been almost 3 weeks now. I don’t know how we’ve made it this far! I wasn’t going to post another blog, or write about this, but I thought how great it would be to share my memories of my daddy with you. And I do know that those memories are what keeps us going and keeps a smile on our face, just to think of him.
My daddy was truly a hero and took on so many tasks that we are now so appreciative of. So many little things that were having to figure out ourselves that we never once thought about before, because daddy did it. The other night we wanted to play playstation, which was something my dad always hooked up for us. We (about 6 of us) tried for an hour to hook that thing up, finally having to call our favorite electronic guy (Jack) for help. Turns out it just plugged straight into the TV, thanks Jack for the help. But this is something we never even thought about learning to do, because we just called on dad to come do it for us.
I had written a short poem about a few memories of my dad. I am trying to write down so many of his silly stories, hoping the memories will never be forgotten.
My dad is my hero in so many ways.
I could stand here and list them for days and days.
He made us laugh where ever we would go.
Even when it was time to be serious, he knew how to make a smile show.
He said the things that were really on his mind,
Even when they did not come across so kind.
There was never an awkward moment, when talking to my dad.
He was real good at making up his own words, whether they meant good or bad.
He was smarter than he would sometimes show.
He would tell us things we didn’t believe, and make us look them up, to find out he really did know.
We had a Saturday morning tradition
Wake up early, and go fishin
We’d eat breakfast at the truck stop,
Then head to the Quinlan flea market to shop.
There’s one fishing trip that was the best
Where I put my fishing skills to the test.
I was reeling in my line,
To hear my daddy screaming, “THAT’S MINE!”
“I caught a HAT!”, I said!
Turns out I caught it off his head
(When I turned to show him the hat I caught, he was holding his head in shock! IT was hilarious!)
He was a prayer warrior everyday
Already praying for his new grandbaby that’s on the way.
I love you Daddy more than you know.
You’re with me wherever I go
Not only will I keep these memories like gold, but also your love, your strength, your laughter, your guidance, and your passion I will forever hold.
There isn’t a moment that goes by that I don’t wish my daddy was here with me. But I can only imagine how great heaven must be right now, with my daddy in it. What an amazing time I know he is having. It’s the hardest thing to try to understand, but God is good and continues to show us that everyday.
I can’t wait for the day when I can say, “Sauvé –ay!” to my daddy again!
